With nowhere else to stay we climbed a metal security door and crashed out on a small seemingly abandoned terrace between two apartment blocks. Come morning an angry man with a shovel in his hand told us to fuck off in heavily accented French.

The strangest and most organised hobo encampment I’ve ever seen. The piles of junk were roughly categorised and the bed was quite well made. It looked as if the occupant had simple gotten up one day and left, never to return.

Much like paris’ rer system, the Renfe in Barcelona is bigger, meaner, faster and more dangerous than its metro counterpart. There are few alcoves to hide in and the stations are spaced quite far apart. Late at night the service thins though, and one has plenty of time to walk. Until a train comes, then you’ll be a runnin’.
